Idaho Bigots have Questions for RomneyMar 12th, 2007 | By H. Lukas Green | Category: Uncategorized
The Idaho Values Alliance says it has some questions for Mitt Romney when he visits Boise on Tuesday. These people, who would have no sympathy or feeling if they saw a gay man beaten to death on the streets, want to make sure that Romney falls in line with their style of “thinking”
The IVA, headed by Bryan Fisher, has a list of seven questions for the man who supports Bush’s war escalation. And six of the seven questions have to do with denying ANY legislation that would protect homosexuals.
One of the first things these “so-called”? Christians want to do is make sure that if Romney were elected to the White House that he would veto ANY AND ALL hate crime legislation that includes references to sexual orientation.
They claim that including sexual orientation would be “quickly used to intimidate, harass, silence, and punish those who hold traditional Judeo-Christian values on the subject of human sexuality, and to severely limit their rights to freedom of religion, speech, and association.”
This is what IVA wants to know from Romney:
“Will you, as president, veto any hate crimes laws that reach your desk? Or, if in force, will you advocate for the repeal of such laws, and sign such legislation if it reaches your desk?”
In other words, they want to know if Romney supports beating the living hell out of faggots.
It should be noted that on Fisher’s website he makes sure that “hate crimes” is only seen within quotation marks. The man doesn’t think being called a faggot and beat to a pulp is actually a hate crime!
On the issue of job discrimination, Fisher and his gang also want to make sure that Romney is just fine with firing queers. They want him to promise to veto the Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA) because it includes “sexual orientation language.”
“Again, such policies are quickly used to silence and punish adherents of traditional views of sexuality,” Fisher’s website states.
And since Idaho passed a ballot to include discrimination in the State Constitution, he wants to hear it from Romney’s own mouth just how anti-gay her REALLY by asking him this:
“Do you believe that Idahoans were right to prohibit the legal recognition of homosexual partnerships in our state constitution”
Fisher and the IVA flat-earth society also want to make sure that Romney is against same-sex couples adopting children. Even if these couples have been in long-lasting family relationships.
“€¦do you support adoption policies that will reserve adoption for heterosexual households headed by a father and a mother who are married to each other, and in so doing prohibit homosexual adoptions”
Let’s just completely disregard the fact that there are children who are RIGHT NOW living well-adjusted lives in households maintained by decent same-sex couples! RIGHT HERE IN IDAHO!
The conservative ideologues also want Romney to appoint “ACTIVIST JUDGES? as long as they are homophobic. They actually want him to give them a list of potential U.S. Supreme Court nominees.
“Will you identify for us, by name, your top five potential candidates for a vacant seat on the U.S. Supreme Court? That is, if you had to nominate someone tomorrow for a seat on the bench, who are the top five individuals you would consider”
Remember when neoconservatives screamed at the top of their lungs about “activist judges” dictating social policy? Funny how that doesn’t apply to them, huh?
Further down the list, but not at the bottom is a call to keep the Boy Scouts of America free from the gay threat.
These bigots actually want to ask Romney this:
“Do you believe it is in fact right for the Boy Scouts of America to refuse to allow open homosexuals to serve as Scoutmasters”
Let’s ignore the reality here entirely. Let’s forget that leadership is not a matter of sexual orientation, it’s a matter of personal fortitude and principles. Something that Fisher apparently lacks.
Now the last diversion from reality, is stopping legalized abortions. Abortion is one of the issues that the religious wrong will never let go because they actually believe that a woman should be forever barefoot and pregnant.
So, to prove that Romney is not pro-choice as he once was when running in Massachusetts against Sen. Ted Kennedy, they want to ask him this:
“Do you publicly support the passage of an amendment to the United States Constitution that will guarantee the right to life of every human being from the moment of fertilization”
And there you have it!
These so-called Christians, who claim to have the market on values and decency, want to make sure EVERYONE in America is free as long as they embrace their narrow-minded ideology.
